About Us
Lindsay Robertson and Corinne Watson have owned about 60 motorbikes between them. Lindsay grew up in Karamea, a remote village in the extreme North West of the South Island, access point to some of the best motorcycle roads in New Zealand. Corinne is from the UK and did many tours through the UK, Ireland and Europe before inadvertently moving to NZ in 2003, staying on after a backpacking holiday. Between us, we have covered almost all of the roads in New Zealand and know the picturesque South Island like the back of our hands.
Corinne does a nationwide tour in a week every year; a whistle-stop jaunt which leaves no time for checking email or phone messages from her day job - the best justification for jumping on a motorbike there is! Normal locals would do the trip in 2 - 3 weeks, people who haven’t seen the scenery before would need upwards of two months to be able to take in the sights along the way. Every year we spend about a week over Christmas (summer) holidays camping and going through the gravel passes with our friends carrying our supplies with us.
We came up with the idea for Motorbike Getaway when planning a holiday back to the UK where we had a month to catch up with family and to do a European trip. There was little enough time in the schedule without having to buy motorbikes, service them and then sell them at the end of the holiday too. With a little help from Corinne’s friends, motorcycles were arranged to be road ready when we landed and dropped back on the way to the airport to be sold by the same great mates!!
