How it Works

Once you have bought your motorcyle from us, it is yours to ride for as long as you like with unlimited kms - its your motorbike after all. If you are planning to be in New Zealand for two to three weeks or more, talk to us for the utmost in freedom and cost effective motorcycling.

We are based in Christchurch and maintain a small fleet of motorcycles. Our experienced motorbike mechanic ensures that your chosen motorbike is ready to go when you when you arrive.

Each motorbike has;

  • A recent service, including oil and filter change
  • Plenty of tyre tread for your anticipated trip
  • Warrant of Fitness (NZ Road worthiness certificate)
  • Registration (Road Tax)

What kind of motorbikes?

Because of the nature of the business, our stable of motorbikes is constantly changing. We aim to have a range of motorbikes which are comfortable for medium distance touring with some luggage. These are normally motorcycles of 600 - 1100cc which might not be brand new but are mechanically sound and will allow your holiday to be both comfortable and economical. They are motorbikes which we would ride ourselves on the kind of trip you are heading away on. If you have a preference for the type or age of motorbike for your trip, let us know and we will see what we can do to source something that fits your requirements.

Agreed Buy Back

We sell you the motorbike in road-ready legal condition. We will agree a buy back price with you depending on your anticipated holiday length and KMs. You use the motorcycle for your trip and when you are ready to leave, we will buy it back from you at that price.

If your holiday takes longer than you originally planned, you cover more KMs, or you give it a couple of knocks or scratches, no worries, come and see us when you’ve finished with it and we’ll sort out a price.

If you want to finish your holiday somewhere other than Christchurch, we may still be able to offer a buy back deal, but you are always free to sell the motorbike yourself or arrange to have it shipped back to us.

See our pricing page for more details

Bookings

When we take your booking we arrange a motorbike for you and service it in preparation for your arrival. The more notice you give us, the easier it is to match you with the right motorcycle for your trip at the right price.

What about riding gear?

We prefer to travel with our own gear and you probably do too. There is nothing worse than a helmet which rattles or a jacket that is too tight. However, if you want gear when you get here, we’ll point you in the right direction to get clothing and luggage which will suit your trip and budget.  Do you want to ship your gear ahead, whilst you relax in the transit lounges of the world? No worries, just contact us for our delivery address and to tell us what to expect and when to expect it

Is my driving license valid in New Zealand?

If you have a valid motorcycle license in your own country, it will normally be valid in New Zealand. To check whether your license is valid in NZ, and to read up on the road rules, go to http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/overseasdrivers/

Motorcycle Insurance

We will arrange all of your motorcycle insurance for you. At less than $10 per day, we have an arrangement which is far cheaper than you would find if you were to rent a motorcycle for your holiday. We do however, strongly recommend that you arrange your own holiday insurance. We will also supply you with a pack of information before your holiday so that you can familiarise yourself with the road rules of New Zealand; a really good way of reducing the risk of needing to make an insurance claim!

What are the NZ roads like for motorbikes?

The roads in NZ offer something to suit everybody. The main roads are typically traffic free, well maintained highways with panoramic views, or following the rugged coastline. Back roads are often shared with sheep or cows and can turn to gravel with minimum notice. These gravel roads offer a new dimension in riding. Not all of our motorcycles are absolutely suited to great distances on gravel roads so if you want to pursue this type of trip , let us know so we set you up accordingly.

Motorcycling accomodation options

Campsites up and down the country offer good facilities including hot showers (some are coin operated) and a kitchen with stoves, toasters and boiling water (bring your own pots though) - an ideal way of keeping costs down and experiencing the sights, sounds and smells, even when you get off the motorbike. Most campsites also have motel units which will give you a bed and a roof over your head, and normally a kettle, toaster and some also offer en suite and cooking facilities within the motel unit.  Backpacker hostels offer a range of accomodation from dormitories to double, twin or single rooms. These hostels can vary in standards but there are some lovely experiences to be had by reading between the lines in the guide book (which we can provide on request). The other bonus with backpacker hostels is that they have a fully equipped kitchen so grab your bag of pasta and you are ready to cook! Of course, if you want to live it up, you can choose from a variety of B&Bs and hotels throughout the country.

Interisland travel

There is a ferry service which operates between the South and North island. Straps are normally available to secure your motorbike on board, but we prefer to take our own, just to be sure. A three hour scenic trip provides a well earned break between riding with good cafes and good roads awaiting at both ends to reward you for your patience.

Breakdowns?

When you arrive we will give you a list of motorbike dealerships / mechanics who we have used ourselves. As most of these are in the main centres (and if you are anything like us, you’ll be avoiding these as much as possible) running repairs are possible at most of the local garages attached to petrol stations.
